"Reaching Colombia for Christ"

In an article entitled Meeting Spiritual Needs with Physical Aid, written by Claire DuBois an intern with Samaritan’s Purse in Haiti, Ms. Dubois captures the essence of what ABM’s primary mission is when she writes “Communities are only as strong as the hope they have.  If all you give someone is a better water source and a few new ways to grow food, you’ve done nothing for their hope at all. It’s necessary and good to have physical needs met, but once you have those you realize that life isn’t about just living.  IT’S ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE LIVING FOR.  Christians know that we live for the sake of serving our Lord and Savior.  We find spiritual life in Jesus Christ, and that’s far more satisfying than any physical food.  Jesus said in John 6:51, “I am the living bread which came down from heaven.  If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world”, and it’s true.  Jesus is our source of everlasting life.  In Matthew 4, Jesus spends 40 days in the wilderness without food, and Satan tempts him by challenging him to turn stones into bread.  “But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”(Matthew 4:4).  Jesus tells us not only that He is our bread but also that the Bible, the word of God, is our bread.”  By this we know that to continue to grow in knowledge of God’s Word is the spiritual feeding we truly require.  Physical sustenance is nothing compared to the spiritual sustenance we can offer by equipping them to grow as Christ followers.”

That’s what ABM is doing on mission….PROVIDING THE HOPE THAT CAN ONLY BE FOUND IN JESUS CHRIST.  This life is full of pain, sickness, hardships, poverty, violence, and depravity.  But it is only temporary. On every street we walk, in every house that we enter, or under every shade tree in which we stand, ABM shares the Good News of Salvation that is found only in Jesus.   “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.  How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (Romans 10:13-15).  Although ABM will never meet all the physical needs in its mission field, it can provide the Hope of a better life that God promises for those who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4).  The photos and videos included on this page bear witness to how God is using this ministry to meet the Spiritual Needs in Colombia.

But bringing people to Christ is only part of meeting their Spiritual Needs. ABM believes once a person becomes a Believer he needs to understand what it means to be a Christian both in the way he lives his life and to his faithfulness in service.  ABM believes the church is God’s instrument to disciple, train, equip and send people to carry out the Great Commandment, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”  For more about how ABM is meeting the spiritual needs of discipling, training, equipping and sending, please visit our Discipleship Page.
